Abstract:

Background: The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Perinatal Mortality Rate (PNMR) are sensitive indicators of quality of care provided to women in pregnancy, childbirth and newborn of first week of life. As MMR and PNMR reflect and revealed the standard of health care of a country, the description, analysis and find out its causes with implementation to reduced these.

Aims and Objectives: To find out or recognize factor or factors or circumstances that may lead to Maternal and Perinatal Mortality, so that those can be avoided or manage with proper obstetric care in future.

Type of Study: Retrospective, and Prospective, Observational, Record Analytic Study.

Place, Duration & Sample Size: In the Dep’t of G & O, IPGME&R-SSKM Hospital Kolkata, West Bengal, India, More than one (1) year.

Methods and Material: The data are collected from the labour room of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), IPGMER - SSKM HOSPITAL. West Bengal. India, and analyzed.

Results and Analysis: This study showed total maternal deaths during that period with MMR of (378-678)1(one) Lakh live births and total perinatal mortality with PNMR of (58-62) per 1000 live births respectively.
